Cookie is a classic game for the ZX Spectrum developed by Ultimate Play the Game and released in 1983.

Game Overview:

In "Cookie," players take on the role of Charlie the Chef, a character who is responsible for baking a giant cake. The objective is to successfully mix ingredients in a giant mixing bowl located at the bottom of the screen.

Gameplay:

  • Ingredients and Enemies: Players must collect ingredients that appear on the screen and avoid the various enemies and obstacles that can hinder Charlie's progress. Ingredients include Mixed Peel, Chunky Chocolate, Crafty Cheese, Sneaky Sugar and Colonel Custard, while the enemies are  fish bones, A thumb tack, and empty can, a bolt and a screw, which attempt to disrupt the baking process.
  • Controlling Charlie: The player controls Charlie using the joystick or keyboard, moving him across the play area to collect ingredients. Charlie can use a flour sifter to stun the enemies temporarily.
  • Mixing Bowl Mechanic: The goal is to knock the correct ingredients into the mixing bowl at the bottom of the screen while avoiding the bad ingredients that can spoil the recipe. Only ingredients covered with flour may enter the bowl, but enemies can fall into the bowl at any time.

Challenges:

The game features a challenging environment with enemies constantly appearing, making it necessary for players to strategize their movements. Timing and precision are crucial as players try to complete the cake recipe before running out of lives.

Legacy:

"Cookie" is considered a memorable title from the early era of home computing and is a testament to the creativity of game developers in the 1980s. It reflects the simplicity and charm of the games of its time, relying on straightforward but engaging gameplay to entertain players.
