"New Rally-X" is a classic arcade game that was first released in 1981 by Namco. It is a maze-based racing game and is the sequel to the original "Rally-X." In the game, players control a red car and navigate through a maze while avoiding enemy cars known as "Zakos." The objective is to collect all the yellow flags scattered throughout the maze while being pursued by the Zakos.

The game introduces new features compared to its predecessor, including the ability to create smoke screens to temporarily confuse the pursuing Zakos. Players can use this feature strategically to escape tight situations or trap enemy cars. The smoke screens are limited, so players must use them wisely.

The maze layout changes as players progress through levels, adding to the challenge. The game has a timer, and players must complete each level before the time runs out. Bonus points are awarded for completing levels quickly and efficiently.

"New Rally-X" is known for its simple yet engaging gameplay, challenging mazes, and the strategic use of the smoke screen feature. It holds a place in arcade gaming history as a classic title from the early 1980s.

Thank you for this, here is my tribute.
There is a few bugs I caught as well on the recording if you plan to fix so at least you can see what happened.

Thanks a lot ! just supported ;)

many pico8 licence owners also own mini console such as rgb30 which natively runs Pico8 rpi version. It would be nice to be able to be able to get .p8.png version to enjoy your games on this device. Your previous games used to be available as .p8.png but you then decide to remove them. Why ? I enjoy supporting other pico8 game devs buying their .p8.png. why would i support a game that can be run natively on pico8 but his dev decides to constrain me to use a web browser ?

Can you release a p8.png for this file. I am wondering if it would run smoother on a desktop emulator.

Okay, this is really good. It feels just like the arcade, and you can even pass through the red cars at the very start of the level just like the arcade (a key strat) - I was stunned that it worked here! Honestly, I love that the play area is "zoomed out" compared to the very claustrophobic original, and I don't mind the flag/rock placement being, for lack of a better term, randomer (although I did get a flag in a one-tile dead end as a result...).

I do have to ping you on two big things, though. First, you're using the original Rally-X's maps instead of New's, aren't you? Your own second screenshot on this page gives you away - New Rally-X has a gap near to the right of where the player car is, making that infamous Room of Death no longer a dead end. Second, you have the Lucky flag blinking on the minimap rather than the Special flag. If that was an intentional decision, it's a bad one, as it removes the luck from the Lucky and the strategy from the Special; if it's an oversight, it's a huge one, especially given the attention to detail the rest of this version has. I strongly suggest you consider that a bug and fix it right away (I'm guessing finding the map alterations will take longer).

Hi, thanks for the comments. So glad you liked it, I tried real hard to get that “arcade” feel for it. The flag/rock placements are taken from a list of possible locations for each level (so many picked at random each level). I it becomes more of a problem I’ll look into getting a better random picker later. As for the levels, when I started first thing I did was pick the first map I found, turns out it was from the “old” version, so I never got around to updating it. That has been fixed now (hopefully all levels are from the “NEW” version). As for the S and L flags. This was a bug from the very start of the mini map which I did know about but for some reason never fixed. I’ve fixed that now. Hopefully that’s should be everything, but if you do see any other problems please don’t hesitate to let me know. Thanks.
